First Science Methods Class!
This summer I had the time of my life. But, I was ready to return back to school. I am now one semester closer to becoming an elementary school teacher. I was very nervous to take Dr. Smirnova's science methods class because I heard it was a lot harder than the previous education classes I had taken. One thing that eased my nerves was when Dr. Smirnova had us click on a link and it opened to letters from her previous students. We were all assigned a number that corresponded to a letter. I read my friend Amanda Seymour's letter. She is my big in the education program so she has already been a great mentor to me, so it was funny to me that I got to read her letter. She talked about being able to time manage, which I know that is something I need to improve on. Also during my first science methods class Dr. Smirnova had us draw a scientist. Many of us drew male scientists with crazy hair and lab coats. From all of our drawings we could see stereotypical patterns. I will definitely use that activity with my future classes. I will put a twist on it though! I will have them draw what they think a scientist looks like in the beginning of the school year and then at the end of the year. They will learn that they all can be scientists. Boy or girl, tall or short, crazy hair or straight, etc.
This is Stanley the Scientist.
